Happy Hour at Kincaid’s

Happy hour is always fun but its even more fun having a drink and a bite to eat with foodie friends!  We had such a great time hanging with food bloggers and friends at Chaya Brasserie a while back, that we decided to do it again.  Except this time we went for a locale a little closer to home.

Keeping in line with Sunday afternoons, an email invitation went out to foodie friends that we would be meeting on 9/27 at Kincaids in Redondo Beach.  The draw for the location?  Ocean views, a great menu, and happy hour daily — including weekends — from 3 – 6:30!

In attendance were the venerable Amir and Chrystal of The Duo Dishes.  Undeterred by the drive from the Valley, they remarked on the cool weather by the beach via twitter, “Y’all don’t even know…the temperature diff btwn the beach and the valley is NO JOKE!”.  To emphasize the temperature difference, we sat outside on the patio.

Annalise and Ryan, a couple of original South Bay Foodies, also joined the party.  Once the crew was all present we dove right into the menu.

The drink specials featured a few selections at $4 each including all draft beers,  a couple wines, and a few cocktails.  The cocktails clearly had our attention as we ordered a mixed round of the margaritas and mojitos.  Both were tasty and well made; they would have been perfect for a more summer-ish atmosphere but sadly the South Bay sky was overcast.

With the appetizers being so affordable (everything was 1/2 off), just about one of everything was ordered; onion rings, calamari, scallops, oh…and the brie!  The bried crusted with macadamia nuts, baked and served with apples was certainly a highlight.  It was also one of the reasons why I wanted to come back to Kincaid’s since my last visit.

But knowing that we were going to be dining on the Redondo Beach pier, I left a little room for the churros from The Pier Bakery.  If you’ve never had one, stop what you’re doing now and run to get one!  These churros are some of the best I’ve ever had.  Freshly made, they’re crispy and cinnamon-sugary on the outside, soft and moist on the inside, and warm throughout.

Just like our previous meeting, it was good to chat and break bread with Amir and Chrystal.  Annalise and Ryan, all to familiar to me as dinner guests, were also a treat to hang out with.  Oh, late comers Nicole and Shania rounded out the good times and added another wave of happy hour items to taste.

I’m already looking forward to the next time…somewhere in the Valley, perhaps!?
