Food Truck Friday: South Bay Truck Stops From North to South

The food truck trend keeps rolling along and thankfully, the options for South Bay truck chasers are increasing.  Along with the occasional visits of trucks around town, there are three regular spots for diners to choose from.

Gateway to Go Food Truck Lot on Century Blvd, LAX

This LAX-area truck stop is one of the older stops around the South Bay.  Taking place every Tuesday from 11 AM to 3 PM in the parking lot of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, this meet up is geared towards the 9 to 5 lunch time crowds working around LAX, El Segundo, and Marina Del Rey.

They have a rotating crew of trucks with a few regulars showing up each week.  To make the gathering more comfortable, they even have tables and entertainment.

You can find a schedule of upcoming trucks and more in our past review of the Century lot.

Din-Din A Go-Go at K1 Speed, Torrance/Gardena

The master-mind behind this weekly truck stop is Eric Nakata, who owns and operates the Lomo Arigato truck.  Every Thursday night from 5 – 9 PM, Lomo Arigato and a convoy of food trucks gather in the lot of K1 Speed, serving up dinner and dessert.

The dinner crowd is the main focus for this stop and the fit is perfect.  Families come out with lawn chairs and make it a picnic or tailgate style event.  Its a great way to visit more than one truck as some folks will order their dinner, hang out and enjoy it, and then get some dessert before heading home.

Dinner Under the Stars at Alpine Village, Torrance

The most recent and southernmost South Bay truck stop is Dinner Under the Stars.  Planned for Wednesday nights, this event goes from 6 – 9 PM in the huge parking lot in front of Alpine Village.

Organized by the folks behind the Munchie Machine truck, this is also a convoy style stop with the Munchie Machine leading the pack and several other trucks joining in.

The turn out for the first rally was tremendous which makes the outlook for future truck stops seem promising.

With these three truck stops taking place each week right in our back yards, its much easier now for South Bay folks to track down cuisine from the trucks that have been previously harder to find.

I'm certainly going to do my part!  Look for more truck reviews on the next Food Truck Friday!
