So Cal Has a New Oktoberfest; Want Free Tickets? [UPDATED]

UPDATE: This event has been postponed until Oktober 2011.  See ya then! 😀

Southern Californians love Oktoberfest like polar bears love snow.  With recent temperatures in the 100’s, So Cal residents probably wish it would snow!  Hopefully, a cold beer at a new Oktoberfest will suffice.

Friday, October 8 - Sunday, October 10

Oktoberfest Southern California is a new addition to the time honored tradition of drinking beer, eating sauerkraut, and doing the chicken dance.  This event brings three days of brew and music to Santa Monica’s Barker Hanger starting Friday, October 8.

The event is the the inaugural but very mature brainchild of American Showplace Productions.  Their 11 years of experience producing San Francisco’s “Oktoberfest by the Bay” have them well prepared to bring  this celebration to Los Angeles.

Here’s what you can look forward too:

  • Four sessions for everyone’s optimal enjoyment: Friday night, two sessions on Saturday, and one on Sunday
  • The “world-famous”, 21-piece Chico Bavarian Band providing non-stop entertainment and groovy oompah music
  • A veritable smörgåsbord-style feast available for purchase with bratwurst, schweinehaxe, goulash stews, wienershnitzel, and more
  • Four beers from Spatan including Oktoberfest, Lager, Pilsner and Franziskaner Hefeweizen.  German wine too!

Tickets for this event are just $20 and discounts are available for Friday ($5 off) and Sunday (2 for 1).  Buy your tickets online; tickets will not be available at the door once online tickets are sold out.  With weather like this and the local thirst for all things brewed, a sell-out is immanent!

  1. My favorite things about Oktoberfest are:
    1) Beer
    2) The ridiculous costumes (when else can you wear peter pan hats or barmaid attire?)
    3) Beer
    4) The chicken dance
    5) Beer….. (You get the idea.)

    Hence why I need free tickets! 🙂

  2. Other than the obvious of beer… nothing beats the HUGE SAUSAGES & hot mustard. :-).

    @nicolemiizuka

  3. How could you not love the beer during Oktoberfest? I am a little partial to the chicken dance, that music seems to invade your mind and roll around in there for weeks on end…

  4. I wanna daaaance! And drink hefeweizen!!! Yuuuummy!!

  5. Oktoberfest?!! BEER, of course. And all the midgets dressed in green top hats and funny shoes and…oh wait. That’s St Patrick’s Day. Right?

  8. I love the bratwurst!

  9. Beer + sausages + beer maidens = good times

    @xmzax

  10. My favorite things about Oktoberfest is the beer and the people that go to Oktoberfest! Everyone is looking to have a great time and enjoy a chicken dance at the same time.

  11. What else is there to love about Oktoberfest besides pretzels, sausage and beer? Best combo ever.

    @Lord_Malvern

  12. I love the beer (obviously) but also the fun loving ambiance!

  13. My lederhosen is ready! I would love to score these tickets!

  14. What I love about Oktoberfest, finally a chance to have good mustard. Beer and fine sauerkraut don’t hurt either.

  15. Where else can a man don short-shorts, suspenders, a feathered hat and imbibe multi-liter Steins of beer–and not have anyone do a double-take? Apart from the garb, other things to adore at Oktoberfest:

    1. Pretzels (Brezeln) so large that you can loop your arm through through them so as to be able to carry your Steins.

    2. Carbohydrates in all three states of matter: solid, liquid and then, uncomfortably, in gas.

    3. The long tables: it feels good to be naughty in a cafeteria setting.

    Es lebe Oktoberfest!

  16. Fav about Oktoberfest? Sure. The beer, of course but let’s talk about that dirt little Oktoberfest secret. And I’m ot talking Lederhosen. I’m talkin’ pretzels. Being originally from Philly, we know a thing or two about Soft Pretzels. And while you can’t find Philly’s cold oval shaped..please don’lt confuse them with the hot ones sold in NYC…twisted treasures for twisted people…the ones served at the Fest are the closest things to heaven in my book. Now if they could just bring Schmidt’s beer back to life….uh, maybe not. Izlll take a Spaten, thank you.

  17. Gosh I love just about everything except the sauerkraut (i’m a bad German, i know). I especially love the chicken dance. And the beer, of course. The introduction of Hef just about makes up for Hitler. Thanks Germany!

  18. Seeing a bunch of adults doing the chicken dance at Oktoberfest is something not to be missed. And of course I love a nice cold beer..or two…or three!

    @LAwonders

  19. I’m all about the meat, potatos and the BEER!
