Food Truck Friday: Mobile Food Court Pops Up in King Harbor (Video)

A fleet of food trucks is sailing into Redondo Beach’s King Harbor this weekend in support of Redondo Union High School.

Last week, several trucks set up a mobile food court in the parking lot of the defunct Venezia restaurant at 655 Harbor Blvd.  The two day event takes place again this Saturday and Sunday with repeats scheduled to take place in March and April.

The pop-up event — billed as the The Food Truck Fest and FUNdraiser — is organized by John Bowler, the operator of  the Barbie’s Q food truck, and Mike Zislis, the owner of Shade Hotel.

The property where the event is taking place is slated for demolition this Spring to make way for a new Shade hotel.  As stated in an Easy Reader article, Bowler and Zislis teamed up to put on the food truck event to raise funds for the Redondo Union High School Associated Student Body.  The article doesn’t mention, though, how funds from the trucks sales would be disbursed to the student organization.

The Greasy Wiener was among the trucks on the first weekend of the Food Truck Fest and FUNd Raiser in Redondo Beach.

The location for the event is ripe with potential customers.  Located in the center of the main drag between Hermosa Beach and the Redondo Pier and Harbor areas, the truck vendors benefit from heavy pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

Food truck chasers in cars will find the location convenient as well with free off-street parking just steps from the trucks.

While no confirmed list of participating trucks is available, the Easy Reader article does mention the following trucks:

Barbie’s Q – barbiesq.com
Rosa’s Bella Cocina – rosasbellacucina.com
No Reservations Catering – noreservationscatering.com
Kabob and Roll – kabobnroll.com

March 19 and 20
April 2 and 3

  2. Thanks, Bianca! I used my Canon T2i to shoot the video and pics and then Windows Live Movie Maker to put it all together. I know you’re the video-post-production guru so if you have any tips I will be happy to hear them! 😀

  5. Sounds like some great food! Your article says it is on Fridays and Saturdays, but the dates listed are Saturdays and Sundays. Can you please clarify?

  6. Thanks for your comment, Wendy! I fixed my blunder. I meant to say Saturday and Sunday but I guess I had Friday on the brain! 😀
