This Weekend! Skate Jams in LBC, Italian Festival in Hawthorne, and the Last Hermosa Pier Summer Concert

Yes, citizens of Southern California.  All good things must come to an end.  The final long, lazy days of the summer are waning away into the business of back to school, back to work, back to…, well, you get the idea.

That just means we have to take these next few weekends and party like the summer is going out of style.  Here are a few things the South Bay Foodies are tracking for the weekend.  Maybe we will see you there!

First Annual Long Beach BMX & Skate Park Jam and Contest at Houghton Park

X-Games fans will appreciate this local taste of high energy skating and biking.  Here’s a chance to check out up and coming talent from around the South Bay and Long Beach.  Kids can also get free lessons and tips from local pros.  Details below, quoted from Inside District 9!

High Enery Skating and BMX Biking Come to Long Beach!

(Quoted from Inside Distric 9) “Councilmember Steven Neal and ASK Long Beach invite you to the first annual “Long Beach BMX Skate Park Jam and Contest at Houghton Skate Park.” The Skate Jam will highlight local Long Beach skateboarders as they compete for prizes.”

“Event co-sponsors include the Tony Hawk Foundation, Etnies and Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine. Long Beach Firefighters Association, Local 372, will provide hot dogs and refreshments. Skate Dogs Skateboarding Company will also provide skateboarding lessons for kids from Noon until 1 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.”

“The BMX and skateboarding competition begins at 1:30pm. Sign up for the competition begins at 10am. Any proceeds raised by the Skate Jam are dedicated to the repair and refurbishing of the Houghton Skate Park and mural.”

Italian Festival at Power Fiat Grand Opening in Hawthorne

The cute, little cares from Italy are coming back and Power Fiat is celebrating with an Italian Festival.  See the details below in a quote from the Daily Breeze Online.  They’re right across the street from Costco so get your big box shopping done and then go get some gelato!

Hermosa Beach Pier Concert Series Featuring “Hellogoodbye”

How appropriate!  The last show of the Hermosa Beach Pier Concert Series is headlined by a group call Hellogoodbye.  Hello, Autumn.  Goodbye, Summer!

Don’t let it go quietly and make sure you catch the 4th and final Hermosa Beach Concert on the Beach.
