This Weekend: St. Vincent Meals on Wheels Inaugural LA Picnic, Alaffia Empowerment Tour at Whole Foods Market

This weekend, we’re taking a pause for two causes: celebrating the seniors in our lives while raising funds for Meals on Wheels and supporting a business with a mission for getting rid of poverty.

As always, you’re invited!

St. Vincent Meals on Wheels Launches “LA Picnic”

lapicnic-logoAs the largest privately funded organization of its kind in America, St. Vincent Meals (STVMOW) on Wheels has their work cut out for them: serving approximately 4000 meals per day around Los Angeles to homebound senior citizens, terminally ill patients, and homeless adults and children.

To support their efforts, STVMOW is launching the LA Picnic, “a daytime fundraiser celebrating the extraordinary contributions seniors make in our lives and communities.”

Taking place at a private venue near the Original Farmers Market, LA Picnic will feature “outdoor entertainment, concessions and an abundant, one-of-kind picnic-style lunch prepared by notable chefs from every corner of Los Angeles”.  Participating Chefs include Vartan Abgaryan, Josef Centeno, Neal Fraser, Ray Garcia, Tim Guiltinan, Sal Marino, Kris Morningstar, Christian Page, Eric Sun and Michael Voltaggio.

Alaffia Celebrates Tenth Anniversary with Empowerment Tour at Whole Foods Market, El Segundo

alaffia-logo1 The Alaffia Shea Butter Cooperative was founded ten years ago to “promote gender equality by empowering women and bringing recognition to the indigenous knowledge they possess”.   To celebrate, the founders are taking to the road on a 58-day, 8780 mile tour across the United States in a biodiesel van.

On Saturday, September 8, they’ll be stopping at Whole Foods Plaza El Segundo to share their shea butter products.  Alaffia premium skin care products are handcrafted with fair trade certified ingredients from Togo, West Africa, and are created to help West African communities become sustainable through the fair trade of indigenous resources.

You can learn more about Alaffia and their products on their website.  Or stop by Whole Foods Plaza El Segundo (or Venice) and try some for yourself!
