Backyard Barbecue at Marie Callender’s…and Pie Too!
For carnivores, barbecue is the often the preparation of choice when it comes to meats; especially when someone else is doing the cooking!
Marie Callender’s is keeping the barbecue season going with a few entrees for BBQ lovers: BBQ Turkey Sliders; Pulled Pork Sandwich; and if you must have some veggies, a Tri-Tip Salad. These plates range in price from about $10 to $13 and come with sides like fries and coleslaw.
Barbecue Platter? Build Your Own!
If making up your mind is hard, they also have a “build your own” BBQ platter ($15.99) with options. This route gives choices like tri-tip, grilled shrimp, St. Louis ribs, and BBQ chicken breast. You can pick two meats and then add on two sides like baked beans, potato salad, or loaded mash potatoes. Oh, the sampler includes a slice of pie too!
Of course, I had to build my own.*
I was longing for some tri-tip but unfortunately they were out during my visit (Noon on a Saturday?) so I opted for the St Louis ribs and BBQ grilled shrimp.
All meals at Marie Callender’s start with a big hunk of hot corn bread and butter, the perfect appetizer for a plate of barbecue.
When the main dish was served I was ready to dig in. And while I was longing for tri-tip, the ribs didn’t dissappoint. Smothered in tangy sauce, they were tender and moist. The shrimp were grilled nicely and then dressed with a slightly sweeter sauce. The shrimp and sauce flavors blended nicely.
The side dishes are noteworthy too. I choose coleslaw (as any good BBQ plate should include) and loaded mash potatoes. The was great: crispy and not heavy in dressing, The loaded mash potatoes were the star though. The cheese and bacon topping were perfect for the potatoes.
After smashing the corn bread, bbq, and potatoes, my tank was just about full so I grabbed my pie to go.
