It’s Official! Grimaldi’s Pizzeria Picks Opening Date for El Segundo

During the summer of 2013, we announced that Grimaldi’s would be opening a location in El Segundo.  Since then, the number one question we’ve gotten via info@southbayfoodies.com is “When will they be opening!?”.

Well, now we can finally answer.

In a press release delivered just after News Year’s Day, Grimaldi’s announced that it would open its first California location in El Segundo on Monday, January 27.

For newcomers and Angeleno’s fortunate enough to already have sampled the coal-fired pizza, the wait won’t be much longer and the distance to travel certainly will be shorter.

In the press release, Grimaldi’s president and Chief Operating Officer, Eric Greenwald, commented on how they came to choose El Segundo:

“The South Bay area of Los Angeles is the perfect place to open our first California location.  After overwhelming demand for our authentic New York-style pizza by fans in California, our team searched the state and found an ideal location in El Segundo.”

Grimaldi’s has been working for months to convert the former Daily Grill location at 2121 Rosecrans Ave into a home for their distinct pizza creations.  This includes adding a 25 ton, coal-fired brick oven and recreating the mineral content in the water to match the water in Brooklyn.

We’re happy to have this world famous pizza in our backyard and look forward to trying some.  Stay tuned!
