A Basq Kitchen Brings Tapas and More to Redondo Beach Pier (Video)

With a menu inspired by the Basque cuisine of Spain and France, A Basq Kitchen is a nice addition to the Redondo Beach Pier’s International Boardwalk.

Their seasonal menu is largely composed of tapas with clear influence from the areas of France and Spain where the Basque culture originates.  Selections are varied from surf to turf with options for all tastes, diet preferences, and budgets.

Guests preferring gluten free might be interested in the fresh oysters ($3); Vegetarians can find items like the pan con ajo (Plancha-toasted bread with garlic butter and parsley) for $3.50; and carnivores might gravitate toward the seared lamb chop ($9).

For an immersive dining experience, the beverages are a must.  Sangria is available in red or white, mixing in citrus and other fruits ($6.50/glass, $24/pitcher).

Also available is the drink which is almost definitive of Basque culture, the Kalimotxo.  It’s a heady blend of red wine and Coca-Cola that is reminiscent of sodas like Dr. Pepper or Cheerwine.  Ordering one is just as fun as drinking one; the bartenders make quite the show of mixing one up with dramatic pours and shouts of “kalimotxo!”

Run With the Bulls through the Kitchen

In honor of the festival of San Fermin, A Basq Kitchen will celebrate with views of the “running of the bulls” , one the Basque region’s most celebrated and well know traditions.

On the evenings of Friday, July 10th and Saturday, July 11th from 10 PM-midnight, guests are invited to view the event as it airs live from  Pamplona, Spain.

A Sanfermines dinner special will be available for $22 that includes two drinks and 3 tapas.

But if you’re really ready to run with the bulls – and come dressed in traditional bull running attire: white shirt, white pants, and a red handkerchief – your first drink will be on the house.
